Voting by Absentee Ballot: Spring Primary Election

VOTING BY ABSENTEE BALLOT

Spring Primary Election – February 21st, 2023

Any qualified elector who is unable or unwilling to appear at the polling place on Election Day may
request to vote an absentee ballot. A qualified elector is any U.S. citizen, who will be 18 years of
age or older on Election Day, who has resided in the ward or municipality where he or she wishes to
vote for at least 28 consecutive days before the election. The elector must also be registered in
order to receive an absentee ballot.

  • TO OBTAIN AN ABSENTEE BALLOT YOU MUST MAKE A REQUEST IN WRITING OR ONLINE.
    You may complete an application to request an absentee
    ballot be emailed or mailed at:https://myvote.wi.gov/en-us/VoteAbsentee
  • Applications are also available on the Town of Bayfield website www.townofbayfield.com. Click on the
    Government Tab, then Election Information.
  • You may also request an absentee ballot by letter. Your written request must list your voting address
    within the municipality where you wish to vote, the address/email address where the absentee ballot
    should be sent, and your signature.
  • A copy of an acceptable Photo ID must be provided with the request unless already on file. For
    information about acceptable photo IDs please visit http://bringit.wisconsin.gov

Making application to receive an absentee ballot by mail.

  • The deadline for making application to vote absentee by mail is 5pm on the fifth day before the
    election, February 16th, 2023.

Voting by absentee ballot in person.

  • You can also personally go to the clerk’s office, complete a written application, and vote an absentee ballot during the hours specified for casting an absentee ballot:

Photo ID will be requested of all in-person absentee voters.

  • The first day to vote an absentee ballot in the Clerk’s Office is February 7th, 2023. The deadline for
    voting an absentee ballot in the Clerk’s Office is February 17th, 2023.
  • Special absentee voting application provisions apply to electors who are indefinitely confined to home
    or a care facility, in the military, hospitalized, or serving as a sequestered juror. If this applies to you,
    contact the municipal clerk.
  • Military Electors should contact the municipal clerk regarding the deadlines for requesting or submitting
    an absentee ballot.
  • The municipal clerk will deliver voted ballots returned on or before Election Day to the proper polling
    place or counting location before the polls close on February 21st. Any ballots received after the polls
    close will not be counted.
